Superintendent's Message
Dear North Montgomery Parents, Guardians, & Community Members,
I would like to welcome you to the new school year! All of us at North Montgomery are excited about the new year and the many great opportunities it holds for us. Our district has a proud history of academic achievement and community spirit. We look forward to partnering with you and your students as we teach, lead, and guide each to do their very best. We know and appreciate that our parents are our students' first and most impressionable teachers. We encourage you to stay connected with our teachers, ask questions, share concerns, schedule a conference, and be involved with the schools as much as possible. This can be done in many ways. The Parent Portal allows you to monitor your child's performance and attendance. You may call or email school employees at any time. All staff are ready to assist. Two-way communication is very important.
A recent brief from the Indiana Youth Institute reports that when families are actively engaged in their children’s lives, the children are likely to have better outcomes. Research shows that children with engaged families have improved academic performance, school attendance, graduation rates, motivation, self-esteem and overall well-being. They also are less likely to be suspended from school, abuse drugs or alcohol, or act out violently.
In Indiana, nearly two-thirds of parents report always attending their children’s activities and events, and one in three Hoosier middle and high school students say that their parents notice when they are doing a good job. This connection between home and school has never been more important. We know that we have many working parents and time is tight. However, we all want students to succeed so it is necessary to find ways to be involved. Check the school websites, follow the Twitter or Facebook links, read the monthly newsletters, know your student's friends and where they are at all times, speak with other parents and family members. It truly does take a community to raise a child. We must work together to help each student make the best choices, work hard, develop good character, and find their TRUE NORTH!
North Montgomery's culture is one of tolerance and understanding of individual beliefs and differences. The staff is provided with on-going training to identify and deter all forms of intimidation, harassment and bullying. The Board policy can be found at www.nm.k12.in.us by clicking on the Parent tab. Please contact the principal with any questions or concerns or there is an anonymous Bullying Report link on each school's website.
I would like to thank you for the ongoing support from the North Montgomery community. On behalf of the School Board, district administration, faculty, and staff, I wish you and your children a very successful school year. We look forward to seeing students very soon.
Sincerely,
Dr. Colleen Moran
